One Bowl Cake for the ones I love

Yesterday, Emily announced that Ya-Ya is her favorite person. After Ya-Ya (Grandmother in Greek) came Daddy and I got third place.

I saw a hint of guilt in her eyes but I reassured her it’s ok.

Of Course, The man she refers as “Daddy”,  was the happiest of them all (not sure if it’s the second place or the fact that his mom got first place?)

Little do they know that they, too fill the third and fourth place on some occasions.

Right after Ms. Sanda  (AKA “cleaning lady”) and Mrs. Ellyn (AKA “the best babysitter”).

Feel free to judge because these ladies sure do not. Not when my house really needs a cleanup and not when I am out for a run even though the baby needs a diaper change. In fact, they will be more than happy to do both. With a smile and sometimes holding a Starbucks coffee in hand for yours truly.

To keep this circle of love rolling, I always make sure to treat these amazing ladies with some homemade love.

Like this One Bowl Cake. One bowl, one pan and in one hour I get countless smiles from the ones I love!

This AMAZING recipe was handed over to me about a decade a go from my Aunt, but it is TIMELESS!

One Bowl Cake

  • 6 Large Eggs, at room temperature
  • 2 Cups Sugar ( 400 g / 14 oz)
  • 4 TBSP Vanilla Sugar ,*see notes ( 40 g/ 1.4 oz)
  • 1 3/4 Cup Sour cream, full fat (400 ml)
  • 1 Cup Vegetable oils
  • 3 1/2 Cups All Purpose Flour ( 420 g / 15 oz)
  • 3 tsp Baking powder
  • 1 Cup Maple Syrup

  1. Pre heat oven to 340 F. And grease a 10 cup Bundt cake pan

  2. Pour the sugar into a big mixing bowl, add the eggs and mix to combine.

  3. Add the oil and sour cream, mix to combine.

  4. Sift the flour and baking powder and mix just combine. (might be a bit lumpy, it's ok)

  5. Pour batter into the pan and place in the oven and bake 50-55 minutes or until a skewer/cake tester comes out clean.

  6. Immediately after taking the cake out of the oven, pour the maple syrup on the hot cake and let cool.

Recipe Notes

The Vanilla Sugar in optional but highly recommended. I use this Gefen brand.

I always have it on hand, and add extra TBS to most of my recipe.

If you choose not to use, omit it with 2 TSP Van. Extract.

  1. Hahaha, you gotta love kids. So great of you to think of those are there to love and support you. Thus cake looks so good and so moist. Nothing missing but cup of coffee-cake for breakfast! 🙂

    1. Breakfast, lunch, an afternoon treat, and dinner! with a cup of coffee or cool refreshing ice tea! I found a great ice tea recipe today 🙂

  2. I feel so honored to be my granddaughter Emily’s favorite person. All my granddaughters are my favorites but Emily holds a special place in my heart since she carries my mother’s name. My daughter in law’s cakes are my favorites. I marvel at her dedication to her baking and the love and joy she puts in executing her recipes. I do believe these are her secret ingredients. I’m lucky to be the official taster when I’m visiting!

  3. Looks delicious and like something I could easily make. I love a slice of cake with a glass of milk or scoop of ice cream! Yummy!
